Cigarettes
A cigarette relit
Tasted too wrong
Thrown out of the car window
There are no more
That is our love, my boy.
Not mine.
It once tasted so good
I got a little too addicted
Kept relighting what should have been left to the ground
Because you hurt my lungs
So I put you away
But when there is nothing left
I know I’ve kept you
Because you tempt me
Nearly every day
So when I am craving you
Even though I know that I will cringe at the taste of you
There is nothing as bitter-sweet
I soak it in
And you throw me out
Because you have no remorse
Setting your lungs on fire
Let alone my heart.
I’m just there, a half-lit cigarette
You guess you could finish
But not, of course, when you’ve just bought a fresh pack.
